Fishing Report – May 2008

The River

The river opened April 26th and is in amazing shape. The weeds have blown out and the river is back to normal water level and the fish are big, fat and sassy. Opening weekend proved to be successful in providing an even number of Brook Trout to Rainbow Trout with sizes averaging around 17”.

We caught fish as small as 6” and as large as 22” with some even bigger fish that left a dumb look on our faces when they took our flies and everything we had tied on. The majority of the time we used clear intermediate lines with bead head nymphs and buggers although there were a few caddis and PMD’s coming off in the morning and evening.

With the weeds gone and the water at its normal level we have been able to do some effective restoration work to make the river more accessible and improve habitat for the fish.

The Lake

The lake thawed out early in April and is fishing very well. The water level is rising daily with the snow pack melting and running into the lake on the North and South ends. The spillway has not run over yet but we are hoping to see some overflow soon.

On Wednesday, April 30th we stocked the lake with around 4000 quarter pound fish to keep the population of fish stable.

The fish we put in last year range from 15”-19”, the fish we put in two years ago range from 23”-26” with some older fish reaching the majestic 30” mark.

With the water rising, the fishing will only improve and is a great place for anybody to hook into monster fish. Contact us to book a trip on the lake.
